Board Member Spotlight: Aiisha G. Herring

Aiisha G. Herring is a dedicated public servant and community leader with over 24 years of experience working for the City of Philadelphia. Throughout her career, she has led impactful economic and workforce development initiatives focused on expanding opportunity, supporting small businesses, and increasing access to careers in the skilled trades for communities of color and women.

A Personal Connection to West Park Cultural Center

Aiisha’s connection to West Park Cultural Center is rooted in family. Her son, Ajani, participated in the Center’s summer camp and photography program—experiences that strengthened his creativity and confidence. Her nephews, now adults, also benefited from programs at the Center years earlier, giving Aiisha a unique, multi-generational perspective on its lasting impact.

“The programs provided exposure to creative arts and helped build confidence in a way that truly made a difference.”

Why She Said Yes to Board Service

Having seen firsthand how meaningful access to arts and enrichment can be, Aiisha was inspired to serve on the board to help ensure those opportunities remain available, especially for children and families who need them most.

“These programs open doors to experiences that are not always front and center for children of color.”

What Makes West Park Cultural Center Special

Aiisha is a strong advocate for preserving what she believes is one of the Center’s greatest strengths:

  • Affordable, accessible programming for families
  • A caring and supportive staff
  • A safe and nurturing environment for children

“Programs here are affordable but highly impactful, and as a parent, knowing my child was safe meant everything.”

As a member of the Board of Directors, Aiisha is focused on:

  • Expanding resources to grow and sustain programming
  • Increasing awareness of West Park Cultural Center across the broader community
  • Strengthening partnerships to support long-term impact

Community Leadership

In addition to her role with West Park Cultural Center, Aiisha serves on multiple boards and remains deeply engaged in her community. She holds a Master of Arts in Urban Studies from Temple University and is a proud graduate of Lincoln University.
